According to reports, the company chose a Sikh model for their commercial to showcase diversity in the country.

“Beard Oil Because for Some People Beards are Religion,” reads the tagline for the commercial.

Singh, who has been an actor for many years now, was in complete disbelief when he saw his picture at Times Square.

“I was informed about this by a friend who lives in NYC and was passing by Times Square,” Singh was quoted by American Bazaar Online.

Singh and his son Amandeep were selected for the shoot after several rounds of audition. The two now hope more images from the commercial will be put up on billboards in other locations.

Singh, who came to the US in 1983, has played small roles in movies like Hancock, Sleeper Cell, Princess Diaries, Spider-Man (2002) and Naked Gun.

His son is an aspiring actor who has already appeared in a Grey’s Anatomy episode.“It is gratifying to see my dad on the iconic billboard. It is as if his dream to see Sikh representation is finally realizing,” said Amandeep.
